The establishment of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) was initiated by the Indian Government with the aim of identifying the brightest student talent available and creating a pool of elite managers to lead the various sectors of the Indian economy. Over the course of more than fifty years, IIMs are now recognized as premier management institutions, comparable to the best in the world for teaching, research and interaction with industry. The courses offered by IIMs are primarily postgraduate, doctoral and executive education programs.
Programs offered
All IIMs offer a two-year full-time Post-Graduate Program in Management (PGP) equivalent to a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. This program is considered as the flagship program of IIMs. After the passage of the Indian Institute of Management Act, 2017 now all IIMs can award an MBA degree. Earlier IIM used to award the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) to its students. Apart from the flagship program of IIM, it also offers one-year executive MBA programs to experienced professionals. Another program offered by IIM is the Fellow Program in Management (FPM) as a full-time doctoral-level program. The other courses offered by IIMs are specialized programs targeted at various management segments.
MBA courses offered
The MBA courses offered by IIM are in areas like Business policy and strategy, Communications, Economics, Finance and Accounting, Marketing, Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, Operations Management, Quantitative Methods and Information Systems. The compulsory core courses in the first year cover the key tools, concepts and analytical skills. While the second year gives them a chance to tailor their curriculum according to their personal interests and career objectives. Electives are offered in all of the major functional areas along with multi-disciplinary courses.

The various courses available in IIM for MBA include Behavioral Sciences, Finance, Economics, Human-Resource Management (HRM), Management Sciences and Information Technology, Marketing, Business Operations, Business Mathematics, Public Policy, Statistics and Decision Analysis, Strategy and General Management. The courses available in IIM are mostly differently named for different IIMs.
India was initially facing difficulties in finding suitable managers for a large number of public sector enterprises. To solve this problem the Indian government decided to set up two elite management institutes named Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad and Calcutta. To meet the rising demand for management professionals the second generation IIMs in India were established.
IIM Udaipur- Second Generation IIM
In 2009, the Indian Government approved the creation of IIM Udaipur; the Institute officially opened in 2011. The various courses offered by IIM Udaipur include the two year MBA flagship program. The MBA graduate program lasts two years over six terms with a compulsory Internship at the end of the 1st year. The iim mba courses include communication skills, analytical skills, understanding how to manage multicultural teams and a host of other skills.
IIM Udaipur started the one year MBA in Global Supply Chain Management.A 12-months full-time MBA program is for experienced professionals focused on Supply Chain Management. With the objective of developing the business leaders of tomorrow, IIM Udaipur offers a one-year full-time MBA program in Global Supply Chain Management where the Institute is seeking candidates with more than three years of experience.
Another program of IIM Udaipur is the first-ever one year MBA program in Digital Enterprise Management (DEM) which introduces candidates with work experience to management concepts and leadership styles in the emerging digital business enterprises. The One year mba DEM provides students with a solid foundation in management fundamentals and also exposes them to contemporary practices of data-driven decision making.
The full-time PhD program of IIM Udaipur offers students opportunities for advanced studies and research in different specializations related to Management Science. The IIM Ph.D. program aims to prepare students for careers in teaching and research in management studies and in related disciplines.
