The Cultural Committee of Indian Institute of Management Udaipur strives to celebrate the cultural diversity on the campus by organizing pooja/cultural performances/specials dinners/decorating hostels during various festivals and events. The committee ensures that the students have a home-away-from-home experience at IIM Udaipur. The committee provides enough opportunities for the students to relax and enjoy campus life amidst rigorous academics.
The student community here comes from diversified backgrounds, and celebrating our differences, as well as our common interests, helps us unite and learn from each other. We understand the importance of cultural sensitivity in today's business world and the cultural committee makes the young leaders at IIM Udaipur sensitive to each other's culture.
The committee seeks to create a platform that provides the students with an opportunity to display creative talents in a variety of ways. The Culcomm also works in collaboration with other clubs like FootWorx, Octaves and Society of Dramatics to organize various events throughout the year.
Audacity '15, the flagship cultural extravaganza of IIMU, was our pioneering endeavour to provide the youth a unique opportunity to participate in some crazy events and explore their unexplored-selves. Audacity is class-apart from other college fests with some inimitable and never-tried-before events like Paintball, Speed Dating, Kick Boxing for Women, Bike Stunt Show, RJ Hunt and Treasure Hunt all around Udaipur. To take the 'whacky'ness quotient to insurmountable heights we had an Insomnia Night (Night-out) planned, loaded with a camp fire to kill the chill, full-night gaming and a mock-Casino setup.
Other engrossing events were War of Bands, Fashion Show, Pub Quiz, Dance, Music and Art. Finally to steal the fire, was blazing performance by Parikrama. It was a star-studded affair with veteran boxer Vijender Singh and Sarod maestros Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan visiting the campus. To add to our widespread media reach, MTV visited our campus and Vijender Singh flagged off a Roadies X2 Bike Rally.

The Holi morning started on a high note with everyone playing Holi with colors and water. The festival was a true testimony to the fact that togetherness lifts the mood of celebrations on festivals to a different level. All the batches of PGP and PGPX united and together played Holi for the entire day. They were joined by the foreign students who are currently on a visit to India. They were intrigued by the culture and joined the IIMU students in playing Holi and for the delicious lunch with thandai and sweets prepared by the Mess staff for the festive occasion.
Celebrations and cheers continue to be written time and again in the cultural activities at IIMU. The Food Fiesta - 2015 was organized from 23rd– 28th February, 2015. Students at IIMU strive to maintain a fine balance between academics and co-curricular activities. The essence of sharing, joy, happiness and the spirit of celebrations are revered in this six day long festival jointly organized by CulComm and MessComm – The Mess Committee of IIMU. The flavor of the food is enhanced by the hospitality and the culture where the PGP-1s serve the food to their seniors, PGP-2s and the PGPX students along with the faculty.
On the first day, Bengali food was served with the very famous Bengali style fish curry. Day 2 saw Marathi and Gujarathi food with undiyos, dhokla and masala bhaat. The first touch point of the incoming batch with CulComm comes as early on as within a month of coming on campus. CulComm organizes most sought after competition on campus Unwind – Section Wars. Various sections of the PGP1 batch compete for 'THE' Unwind trophy. It aims to foster a spirit of hunger to win but at the same time as a team, not individual. Students of a section bond with each other, making friends for lifetime, amidst an excruciating schedule of 40+ events in just 60 hours. So much is the intensity of the competition, it ends with deafening cheers from the winners and emotional teary moments for others. But, one thing it teaches is compassion for all and sportsman spirit.
The most important part of our culture is respect and love for our own nation. And that reflects in the CulComm on IIMU. CulComm makes sure each and every Independence and Republic Day is celebrated with fervor and zest. Starting with a patriotic speech by a student, the event proceeds to flag hoisting and speech by our respected Director Prof. Janat Shah. After reciting the national anthem, Octaves – Society of Music, IIMU presents a group song performance and sings some patriotic songs. This is followed by sweet distribution and high tea.
IIMU cultural committee has organized Ganesh Puja celebrations on campus with high energy and fervor. The Lord Ganesha idol was welcomed into the campus with aarti and pooja early morning. Lord Ganesha was in the campus premises for 3 days and each day the pooja was performed in the morning as well as evening. The last day saw the students executing the final formalities with Gulal celebrations and Idol immersion ceremony at Fatehsagar Lake.
The festival of colours, lights, beautiful dresses and most importantly of Dandiya and Dance is celebrated with utter zeal at IIMU. CulComm arranged for beautiful traditional dresses for the student community. Law Hostel was decorated all over with colourful lights, sound system was arranged and the quadrangle was cleaned and carpeted to set the stage or a perfect Dandiya Night. Students danced to the Garba tunes till midnight. The garba experts on campus took this opportunity to teach fellow batch mates as well as exchange students the art of Garba.
The auspicious occasion of Dussehera was celebrated with much fanfare in Law Hostel quadrangle with the Dramatics Society performing a trademark fun-filled Ram Leela with an innovative streak. The culmination of the Ram Leela was the burning of an effigy of Raavan. It was the treat to watch the effigy filled with loads of crackers turn into ashes, as it lit the vicinity with colourful lights from the crackers, with the crowd cheering and lifting the spirits of fellow batch mates.
One of the most awaited and widely celebrated festivals across India is also celebrated with great cheerfulness and happiness at IIMU. All the hostels are adorned with colourful dangling lights for 3 days and diyas are placed at the doorstep of every room in all the hostels. The arena demarcated for the celebration is decorated with wonderful rangolis and diyas. It is a soothing yet enthralling sight to see the lights from diyas all around. The evening consists of engaging performances from the dance and music groups. Faculty and their families are also invited and actively participate in the performances. Alas, nothing is complete without a filling traditional dinner.
