"Ideas are Bulletproof"
Potpourri is the literary think-tank of Indian Institute of Management Udaipur. As the name signifies and the logo corroborates, the club promotes a blend of ideas from various spheres of quizzing, public speaking, literature and art, all mixed with some boisterous entertainment.
The Motto: 'De Stringere Liber': In plain English means the desire 'To Liberate the Stressed', and believe us there are plenty of those around. Yet a descent into flippancy or frivolity is neither the objective nor the means. Rest assured that all activities will be carried out with utmost seriousness, keeping in mind the age old adage: "You learn something new every day".
Quizzes on Sports, Business and all other topics under the sun are organized by Potpourri. Potpourri has a tradition of conducting I-Day and Republic Day quizzes which sees participation in large numbers from students and faculty alike. Add to it, the IIMU newsletter 'Balicha Bugle', which was initiated as a fortnightly, reporting all the activities in the IIMU campus, about the IIMU community, and circulated within the IIMU sphere.
Potpourri welcomes the juniors at college in its own special style with a medley of activities and events over a three day period. "JAM - Just a minute", "What's the good word?", movie screening and a lot more. The end of Satan's Trifecta also holds an invitation to the junior batch to express their interest in joining the club.
Stories are always part of our lives. From listening to fairy tales as kidsto the ones,we read in our cases in our MBA classes, stories…stories everywhere. But yet again, with the idea of spreading the joy of learning, in the literary style, Potpourri holds Tell-a-Tale, the story weaving event. The one where participants (this year included from the entire IIMU community) engage in story-telling, not just as part of a fun activity but also to share thought processes.
With a motive to promote the love for reading and all things literary, The LeapDay Lit fest was conceptualized to provide a platform to students and the public of Udaipur alike, to interact with and learn from eminent word-smiths. The fest will be held asone day event on the 28th of Feb every year and as a two day event in case of a leap year. This year, The Leap day Litfest was graced by Mr. Nikhil Sachan and Mr. Chetan Mahajan, who held a panel discussion on 'Being MBA authors', as well sessions by classical singer Ms. Vidya Rao and Painter Siddharth. The theme for this year'sevent was 'Odyssey of Expression'.
As part of the run-up to The LeapdayLitFest, Potpourri, in association with Culcomm, presented IIMU's first ever in-house sponsored play – 'Kanjoos'. The play was an adoption of the famous Hindi story, and it was the students who played all the roles – director, logistics, performers' et al. Like many other Potpourri events, this event too attracted audience from the entire IIMU community.
With a motive to promote the heritage and exciting locales of Udaipur,Potpourri in association with Codered conducted The Udaipur Amazing Race this year too, with many twists and turns. It included a little bit of pottery, a dip in the cold waters of Lake Pichola, a visit to the Royal Graveyard, the local Goshala and much more – and the best part, the cryptic clues to all these locations.
To be officially launched soon; Briefcase aims to bridge the gap between information and knowledge. It will be conducted in fortnightly sessions, with each session aimed at the understanding of a global issuewhile connecting and understanding it with the help of regional and local examples.
