IIMU’s PhD program in Decision Sciences prioritizes the development of researchers oriented toward business applications research through a quantitative lens. The program aims to prepare students for careers in academia as well as in practice (government, non-profits, think tanks, or other organizations) that call for research and analytical capabilities. The PhD scholars will get training in various aspects of decision sciences with a primary focus on management applications, built upon three pillars of business school research – Information Systems, Statistics, and Operations Research. A 1-year/2-semester master's degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 60% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. This cutoff is 55 percent marks for applicants from SC, ST and PwD categories.

A five-year Integrated Master’s degree (obtained after completing higher secondary schooling in 10+2 pattern) in any discipline with at least 60% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed. This cutoff is 55 percent marks for applicants from SC, ST and PwD categories.
A professional qualification (completed) such as CA (ICAI), ICWA, CS with a Bachelor's degree with at least 60 percent marks. This cutoff is 55 percent marks for applicants from SC, ST and PwD categories.
A 4-year/8-semester Bachelor's degree with equivalent of 75 percent marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. This cutoff is 70 percent marks for applicants from SC, ST and PwD categories.
These criteria are higher than the minimum threshold suggested by UGC guidelines on "Minimum Standards for Ph.D. admissions" as of November 7th, 2022, to ensure consistency with the minimum eligibility criteria of pre-PhD qualifications for the role of Assistant Professor at IIMs.
The Master's degree or equivalent qualification/Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification required for IIM PhD eligibility should be: (a) from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956; or (b) recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India or (c) possess an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE. The Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing Higher Secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.
Final year candidates who have not yet completed their respective degrees (Bachelor's or Master's) by the date application is due are eligible to apply for IIM PhD program at IIM Udaipur and can receive provisional acceptance. According to IIM PhD criteria, with their initial application, they must submit a bonafide certificate (on the day of registration) signed by the head of their current department/institution indicating that they have completed all examinations/submissions required for obtaining the degree. No later than December 30th, of the year of application, they must submit the final mark sheets/certificates related to the completion of the degree indicating the minimum cut-off has been met.
Please note that a candidate can apply to only one area. In the case where candidates submit multiple applications in more than one area, the application received on the latest date will be considered and the previous application/applications will be summarily rejected.
Along with the completed application form, the following documents are mandatory:

Scanned copies of all academic mark sheets, certificates, qualifying examination score cards, category certificates, and research proposals must be uploaded, along with the online application form.

There shall be 2 stages in the selection process for Decision Sciences Area:
Stage 1: Research Aptitude Test (RAT)
Stage 2: Personal Interview (PI)
Screening of Applications:
After screening of all applicants based on performance on RAT, only shortlisted applicants shall be called upon in person for Personal Interview.
Breakdown of DS-RAT (Research Aptitude Test):
The syllabus for the RAT and PI will be as follows:
A. Applied Mathematics: (i) Basics of sets, functions, relations, continuity, differentiability; (ii) Calculus: differential calculus, integral calculus; (iii) Linear algebra: linear transformations, matrices;
B. Statistics: (i) Data summaries: frequency distribution, measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, correlation; (ii) Probability: basics of probability, conditional probability, Bayes theorem; (iii) Statistical distributions: binomial, Poisson, normal, and exponential distributions, their properties.
C. Logical Reasoning
Additionally, in RAT, Intelligence via logical reasoning, concept and application capacity will be checked.
