MBA Admission Policy for International Applicants

Background

International Applicants in IIMU

The two-year MBA in IIM Udaipur’s educational program prepares young graduates for managerial positions in industries and for future leadership of organizations. The graduates of IIM Udaipur's full-time residential program receive an AACSB accredited Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.

The two-year MBA emphasizes knowledge assimilation and practical implementation in arriving at managerial decisions. The program lasts six trimesters, spread over two years, with a summer internship of two months in-between the two years. The continuous evaluation system of the course comprises quizzes, assignments, mid-term and end-term examinations. The program also emphasizes learning through the case-study method, group work, discussions, and real-life projects. The students expand their knowledge and intellectual horizons and emerge transformed and prepared to impact the world of business and society at large. The program also sensitizes them to social concerns as an integral part of the learning process.

Definition of International Applicant

IIMU defines a candidate's international status based on their residency, not nationality. An International applicant is any Indian or foreign passport holder who is:

  • Working or studying or residing outside India with a valid passport or travel documents for at least 18 months in the three years preceding the application.
  • Not in a position to take the domestic entrance examination for admissions to IIMs, viz. the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management.
  • To further clarify, on the day CAT is scheduled, any candidate holding an Indian or Foreign passport in India will NOT be eligible to apply under the International Applicant category. One can find the specific date for the CAT test on iimcat.ac.in .

Eligibility

The candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification (at least a three-year program after 10+2 or equivalent), with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), also referred to as Grade Point Average (GPA) in some cases, awarded by a University/College/Institute of Higher Learning/Tertiary Institute in India or abroad. For candidates holding foreign degrees, the equivalence of the foreign degree needs to be certified by the Association of Indian Universities (https://www.aiu.ac.in/).

IIMU would calculate the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the Bachelor's degree based on the practice followed by the university/institution from which the candidate received the degree. If the university/institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate's CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result by 100.

Candidates appearing for the final year of the Bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination as well as those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the program only if they submit a certificate from the Principal/Registrar of their university/college/Institute at the time of joining. Such certificate should state that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining a Bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate. The deadline for submitting the mark-sheet and the certificate would be December 31st of the year of enrolment in the program. Non-fulfillment of this condition will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.

  • The candidate must have a valid GMAT/GRE score (Not older than five years from the date of application).
  • IELTS/TOEFL score if the language of instruction during undergraduate education is not English.

Original Score Card Submission

After receiving the offer of admission by the Institute, the candidates will mandatorily need to share their official GMAT/GRE score cards through mba.com or Educational Testing Service (ETS), as applicable. Please note the following:

Shortlisting and Interview

  • The shortlisting of applicants for a Personal Interview (PI) depends on the candidate's GMAT/GRE score, SOP, and letters of reference. The Admission Committee will do shortlisting and send communication to applicants shortlisted for PI.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be required to appear for an interview. The interview will be held telephonically or through virtual media such as Zoom, Skype, etc., on a rolling basis. Communication will be sent to the candidates regarding the interview at least one week in advance.

The final selection of candidates depends on multiple criteria such as GMAT/GRE score, performance in the personal interview, academic profile, relevance and quality of work experience, and overall suitability for admission to the two-year MBA. The admissions offer made to candidates needs to confirm their acceptance by completing all the formalities. Some candidates may also be placed on the waiting list initially. Offers to candidates on the waiting list would depend upon the number of successful candidates accepting the offer made by IIMU.
